Hi guys, I have a small job to go to where the customer wants a single socket changing to a double and some under cupboard lights installing in his kitchen. The under cupboard lights however already have cables installed. My question is whether or not I need to issue a MWC and also, whether the work is notifiable. My thoughts are that the job would be just the same as replacing like for like as the under cupboard cable is already installed and that I won't have to issue a MWC or notify. Could someone please tell me whether I'm on the right track or whether im totally wrong?

Page 8 of part P document states in additional notes section b.

Replacement, repair of maintenace jobs are generally not notifiable, even if carried outin a kitchen or special location or associated withspecial locations (garden lighting and power installations, etc)

And what part of fitting new fittings that have not existed at the end of a cable, comes under Replacement, repairs and maintenance.

I actually agree that the chances of having to notify it is slim, but I personally would call the BC and ask them , and baffle them with BS, as I often find that it baffles brains.

As Tel said if your not part of a scheme ...........well, but if you are what is it going to cost you to notify, 1.80-2 pounds.

I agree that it will cost buttons to notify and so on. But I just don't feel there is any need to. It's basically a replacement of an accessory.

i feel the same, but technically, as others have said, how can you replace something that is not there in the first place. i would agree that it is a very pedantic way of looking at it but that's why i feel it is better to be safe than sorry, and for what? all it means is an extra £1.75 on the bill for the customer.

I was always taught and I think it is still the same whatever you do in our industry you always err on the side of caution, if you notify it then what is the worse that can happen ............it gets ignored by your scheme and they don,t send it off but you will have it referenced, and it is 1.75 .....................

If I wasnt part of a scheme ...................then I leave that each to their own

There must have been something there for cables to be exposed or am I reading into this abit offline....

No, the customer had a rewire done by a friend who's a sparky from up north. Obviously his mate aint gonna come all this way just to fit a couple of little bits so recommended that the customer find someone local. The wires were put there by the northern sparky but the lights not fitted.

Get onto your scheme asap, I'd like to know the outcome of this if possible. If the work has been inspected and tested I see no reason for the adding of accessories to be notified.

No joy unfortunately. A guy from TasNetworks came out and took a look. The line is currently too low, and they would not be able to get it to...
