if you had a job which required 2 hours travel to get there and 2 hours to get home ,would you pay your employees for that traveling?????

my boss is trying to get me to sign contract and there is grey areas all over it in my eyes.
Not sure whether you actually have to sign it.
Unless you, the union, or similar, can get the boss to alter the conditions, then, unless illegal, those are the company's conditions.
You either accept them or leave.

Employment rights act 1996, if your employer tries to force a change in your T&C's on you and you don't agree then it is a breach of contract and you can fight it but it's better to get the union involved with their legal team as you won't stand a chance fighting this on your own as employment law is open to interpretation and full of grey areas!!!

My advice is get a decent employer. Anyone should pay you the travelling time, if your boss wants to get work miles away then he should price the travelling time in with the job. Cant expect people to work for free, I know times are hard but thats taking the **** IMO!!

NO! I do not pay travel time,

My staff are salaried, that means taking the rough with the smooth, ie finishing early often but rarely working on etc

My guys have company vans and are allowed as much fuel as they want, including private mileage.

If the Job is more than an hour away I will allways offer overnight accomodation including food and beer.

I value my staff and try to look after them, to drive 4 hours and then do a full days work is too much.
