had same problem with e7 heaters, fitted contactors to start 5min after e7 time no more problems. I thought at the time it must be e7 contactors

Is it not the case that the contact within the storage heater is usually not very good quality and
causes a spark as it makes or breaks, this might be able to trip out an rcd, using a time delay rcd
100ms would sort the problem. I have had a similar problem with a neighbors electric strimmer.
