Just been out to see a "problem"! The RCD for the sockets is tripping and the lady of the house thinks its something to do with the electrics outside......

Not easy to tell from this photo but there are a number of places to start and that's not even allowing for all the junctions and accessories around the garden.

It could be something straightforward .....but something tells me that there's going to be some rework to be done here!

So I went back today and fixed her faulty kitchen lights then looked outside.....

So a quick look around the garden identified a number of joints in the shrubbery etc so I opened the first one, as I picked it up I noticed that water seemedto be coming out of it!

There's also nibbled hituf cable, a lighting cable completely cut through, etc, etc!

Lets hope the cable that comes out by the down pipe with the blocks on is dead! Talking about the plumber doing it, lost a job doing a board change for my aunt yesterday as the plumber is going to do it for half the price. I was doing it cheap at ÂŁ250 including materials and labour, that was for running bonding to the gas/water at the other side of the house. So plumber is going it for less than ÂŁ125 incl mats. Somehow dont think he's got a lot of work on. Will be interesting to see his work after though, Might end up offering him a job at those rates!

A board change for ÂŁ125.00 inc materials - if your Aunt goes for that, IMHO, she's mad.

As far as shes concerned shes just looking at saving money. Shes having an electric boiler put in and plumber said needs a new board as no spare ways and no RCD protection. I assume its the same bloke whose quoted aswell. Only way I can see he will get round it cheap is service block, new 1 way unit with RCCB, no worries for him. No testing or inspecting the existing circuits. Will have to wait and see. Even ÂŁ125 is mega cheap for that sort of work. I was only doing it for that price as shes family!

Ah, that's a bit different than a whole board change then.
It's not necessarily the worst thing losing out on work for family, they're as bad as friends when it comes to expecting you to sort out any future problems for nothing, let the plumber worry about it.
