I think I need to buy some personal tools for practice and for work.
What kind of tools do I need to buy?
I can't afford to buy expensive and high quality tools.
So will you recommend some basic tools which is not so expensive and is not rubbish?

A set of Irazola drivers, knipex snips and pilers. Spend as much as you can afford, don't buy cheap as you'll buy twice and save for test gear

If you can't afford a lot at a time buy it week by week i.e. a screwdriver set one week, cutters the next etc etc..

Or seeing as its christmas coming up get someone to buy you this C.K 9500 Electrician's Premium Kit: Amazon.co.uk: DIY & Tools

As for what makes you won't go wrong with CK, Knipex, Irazola it all comes down to personal preference

tools dont have to be expensive, but once your earning money its better to start buying good tools ;just start out cheap and work your way up pliers wire cutters screwdrivers hacksaw.meter. also it does depend on what your doing house bashing industrial ,call outs as to what tools you'll need

Thats difficult because cheap tools are usually rubbish, however have a look at Silverline at Toolstation . They are probably the best of the cheap stuff , and I think they have a lifetime guarantee.

I seen it somewhere for £100 plus vat. if I come across it this week i will pop a link onto whoever had it in for that money

Silverline are bobbins, please don't waste you money.

As for screwdrivers, i'd buy singles, as you need them. Cutters and pliers Knipex or Bahco. These brands eill last you a good while.

Dare I say :evil2: You can get some quite decent stuff from local auctions and car boot sales to get you started. Older stuff is better gear anyway.

When you buy a cordless drill, make sure you buy one with 2 batteries, sure it'll cost a bit more, but buying a 2nd as a "spare" later can be alarmingly expensive.

To be fair he is asking for cheaper ranges. I bought a set of silverline holecutters from my local wholesaler years ago and have used them for inspection holes in wayrock etc and the are still going strong. Horses for courses , my bacho dual knife bought last year is falling apart already. The belt clip loosened and came off in the first week of use.

Fair enough.

But for cutters/snips, you cant buy cheap and good, its not possible. He'll be replacing the cheap stuff within months of buying it. Did the same when I first started, never again lol

I agree with that , It's a hard road. I bought off the vans on site on ticky:frown: when I started .Dear but good.

A few months back I mentioned to my wife that I needed a new pair of snips and that I'd be nipping to the wholesalers at the weekend. I rang her the following day at lunch time, as you do, she said she had been to pick them up for me. I askedher where she got themexpecting to hear the name of our local guys but got answered with Wickes, intrigued I asked her how much she paid. £6.50 was the answer.
Blunt after the first few cuts. "stolen" the following day, Knippex pair bought the following saturday

You can buy a full set of everything you will need for around £300-£400 and they are draper which is not too bad

Take a look at: www.sparksdirectsupplies.co.uk they have some pretty good prices.
I just bought a set of Kewtechnik insulated drivers from them for £14 + VAT most other places are charging £25-30 + for them. Had my last set of Kewtech drivers for nearly 9 years also on ebay ther'es a seller doing Kewtech pliers & cutters for £3.50 a pair. Forgot to mention, you get a 10% discount on your first order & free shipping over £50.

if you go to screwfix and go in via the electrifix/plumbfix entrance, you can sign up for a trade card as long as you take qualifications to prove your a qualified sparky, its similar to a screwfix membership card exept you get better discounts on electrical products

Had a nice delivery today, i ordered the Kewtech pliers / cutters from the seller on ebay yesterday £3.50 a pair & £2.20 carriage & they arrived this afternoon, all brand new jus dusty from storage.

the abocve are my reccomendations for decent tools, that will last, and do a decent job.

Its isnt worth buying rubbish, and the above is what i have in my toolbox. ive got lots more, but it would take me forever to list!
i sugets doing what others ahve already stated, and that is to buy one or two items a week, and build up your set. that way you will have a decent set of tools.
As for a method of carrying your tools about, im still trying to find the best method, as my bag and box, are full of tools, and there is no organisation to it!

ive jsut noticed that the froum doesnt allow links to certain websites. all but one of the links that are disallowed are to screwfix, so just type the 5 digit number at the end of the link, into the screwfix search bar, and that will bring up the correct item.

good set of pliers snips & drivers rest ucan buy cheap and up grade later and tools u dont use that often youll get away with cheap!
don,t hurt as much if you lose cheap tools! lot of tool snobbery out there!LOL good tools help but they won't automaticlly make u a better tradesman!
trust me ive worked with em" ALL FUR COAT AND NO KNICKERS"

I think, C.K tool is the best hand tool. Nowadays, it's the best selling hand tool for electricians. This is good quality, very cheap and innovative product tool.

You probably won't believe it but they are not, knipex have the Market share on tools with jaws, wera have it on screw drivers, however CK are very good, I don't like them but that's no more than personal preference, I'm a knipex/irazola man myself.
