has anyone used those card top up meters.

a landlord has asked me to fit a coin meter, but the card ones are cheaper. are they anygood?

I have one! They are good, i have never installed one though.

Just make sure you can get top up from somewhere local! You do get a £5 overdraft thing which can be useful.
I have had no problems so i cant fault it!

how do you buy top up for these if the meter is owned by a private landlord. I know the ones owned by utilities companys can be topped up at post office and shops etc but surely they aren't set up for a private landlord.

Have a look at JW Instruments website. He is in Normanton near Wakefield, but does mail order. I get mine from him, he will set them up for you or you can do it yourself. They are really easy to set up. They come with a code, and you have to buy the cards from him with the same code, they are about £25 per thousand, and come in 5, 10 or 20 quid denomination, so potentially for £25 you get £20,000's worth of cards, and the tenant buys them from the landlord.

Cheers..........Howard

It sounds like it depends on the situation - for a complex of holiday lets etc where there's a reception or onsite shop the voucher system could work, but that could be a pain if you don't plan ahead.
A coin meter could be used on a short or very short term basis by anyone with the right coins but would need emptying periodically.
A card meter could be used by anyone who can top up at a paypoint shop and has the 'overdraft' facility, but they require a special tariff and the landlord wouldn't be able to take a cut.
