Hi, someone tripping when they use the iron and have the soudbar on listening to music intermittently.

I did the continuity on the sockets. Checked the rcd. All fine.

I think it's the iron. Looks older that me like? Any opinions. Cheers matey

Use your MFT and do an RCD ramp test on the circuit. It should normally be somewhere around 25-30 milliamps if nothing problematic is plugged in. Then plug in the iron (or any other appliance) and see if it drops a lot.
You could also PAT test the iron if you suspect it.
A milliamp clamp meter can also be used if you have one.

Thanks for the quality input.

Anyway, back to the issue. My money is on the iron. I would simply advise the homeowner to use the iron with the soundbox off...... and then vice versa. It will prove to be one or the other

no fun there. my lady hates Pink Floyd, so I always put it on when she's ironing. she then manages a week's ironing in 4 hours instead of 6. plenty of time left to prepare me a 16oz. sirloin with chips, peas, mushrooms, onion rings, egg, and a slice of extra thick bread with real butter. winner.

4 hours? That's just enough time for a PInk Floyd song! Well, one of their shorter ones.

I would add though that a typical good TT rod of 100 ohms only needs 3V to have 30mA flowing and so trip an RCD, you might find that sort of N-E...

Which rcd is it? Is it one for everything, one for a few circuits?
