Tripping stat

Been called out to a tripping stat twice in last week I'm happy lol call out charge but client asking why it's tripped again so my question is why the stat is a cotherm type tse any help please

What tests have you carried out?

Because that is what was fitted that why, test it find out what's wrong and fix it, it's what we do day in day out fun fun fun, some times or most times it's best to get the tools out and not the phone, computer or the lady next door

I've tested stat twice tested ok but had to reset it twice now

Have you got model number for stat or a pic it might help,

Looking at website, think best just to replace it,
I might have this wrong but if it's corroded you can get test readings that make you think it's ok something to do with water ( tin hat on) lol

Turn it on water heats up, turn it of water cools down all works good, all test done go home . Customer rings up, it's trip agin, that s ok ill be right round to test it agin, reset water heats up works for a hour you go home, just as your having your dinner customer rings up, it's stopped working agin

pete done continuity test all ok voltage test power in power out didnt think id have to explain simple test sequence lol

Are you saying that you have an immersion heater on which the thermostat is cutting out on overheat.
When the thermostat is reset then after a while the thermostat is cutting out on overheat again.

If this is the case then there is a problem with the immersion heater where it is starting to fail and overheating the water in which case the thermostat is cutting out, the next time it heats the water it may be OK but the next just pushes it over temperature and so on.
It is also possible that the thermostat contacts have been arcing a bit too much and are welding themselves closed

The first time an overheat does this then resets is the obvious response, the third time it does this in a reasonable time then it is checking the Immersion for insulation resistance to earth to find the element breaking down.

Thanks Richard checked the emmersion element aswell only continuity but if trips again which it hasn't yet I'll replace thermostat and do an ir test

Do a quick continuity test across the element..... a 3kw immersion with give you a reading of around 17-18 ohms if all is hunky dory !!!!
