Tripping stat

So the overheat protection is operating, what logical process did you follow to arrive at the conclusion that it needs to be replaced?

Is the I/H the only source of heat? is there a solar heat input of some kind, bearing in mind the recent hot weather?
Has someone turned up the temperature on the stat?
Have you measured the temperature of the stored water or the temperature at the thermostat?
Has there been an increase in demand for any reason recently?
How old is the stat?

You only charge a call-out fee the first time, after that it is just part of the same job is it not?

And if it's returning to the same fault multiple times then they get its reduced rate or even free out of the sheer embarrassment at not having done the job you've been paid for!

If they have not adjusted the stat surely with the cost of a stat balanced against call out fees it would of been just as well to change the stat the second time (heck - i will normally take a stat to a call out like this and if there has been no alteration of the settings or no other obvious cause for the overheat change it to prevent a second call out)

Your better than me sorry don't drive round with spur stats in the van

You're not the only one! I do have a couple of regular immersion heater stats and complete heaters in the stores (my shed) so I can take to these kind of jobs.
But the one in your picture is not a standard immersion heater, it looks like an all in one heater/stat unit as fitted to invented cylinders. Not so easy or cheap to just swap out, you have to allow the time for draining all of the water out and refilling.
