hi there, I’m just looking for opinions/advice. A couple of years ago I had a 8.5kw Triton shower installed by a local company. In May it broke. Triton installed a 9.5kw omnicare. It’s broken again. Triton say the rcd is the issue this time. The RCD is 40 amp which apparently is not strong enough. What I find astounding is Triton did not check the rcd before installing the new unit. Apparently it’s not their job! Apparently the rcd wasn’t even right for the old 8.5kw shower either. Am I wrong for thinking Triton should’ve checked the electrics before installing the new one? I know they couldn’t have fixed it but I’d rather they had done that than leave me with a broken shower after 2 months!

It’s just the shower that goes. That’s about as much as I can tell you. Sorry. Am clueless about this stuff. Looks as though the board was put in in 2010
Without being there it's difficult to address the problem, but usually the RCD will be connected in conjunction with a number of MCBs, but you say it's only the shower that doesn't work, this makes me think it's the MCB that is tripping not the RCD, can you post what is written on the device that trips? Or better still a picture of the Consumers Unit (fuseboard) showing the item that trips.

Hope these help!? On the bottom picture, “shower” is to the left of “lights”

Looks like a standalone RCD feeding the shower, can#t see how it will be a load issue, more likely a fault in the shower wiring or the shower, you will nee to get the wiring and shower tested by a skilled electrician, with the correct test gear.

Just took the cover off the shower. Was a “visual inspection”. He certainly didn’t seem to have any kit with him

Standard triton stuff, did a new install triton shower failed after a couple of months. Customer calls me I go out check it and test it all again everything fine told them to call triton. I wasnt there but apparently they turned up were there for about a minute didn’t take cover off and said you need to call your electrician back to do a ramp test on the rcd as that’s the problem, it wasn’t even tripping anything just cutting out. After telling the customer the circuit has been tested twice and is fine. I called triton myself got an engineer and met him on site who said the pcb has gone and the details he got from the previous engineer visit was that he didn’t have the right parts to fix it. Shower of ---- I’d say

Rant alert - the original service guy lied and his actions have caused increased costs for the Customer, You and his company. And he has brought his company into disrepute. I don't understand how service departments can tolerate this?

I got a sparky out. He put in a 45amp mcb so all seems fine now. I just feel like Triton could’ve handled it a lot better. I find it astounding that they would install a shower without at least looking at your electrics!

It's quite simple really Mate, the money they make from, say, selling 10 showers far outweighs the chances of 1 or 2 causing trouble for their customers.
