Twin & earth from meter to board

Hi guys, I've got a 6mm T&E leaving the suppliers meter and supplying an old 3036 wylex in front of me and the meter is sealed. Never come across this before. I'm sure the house can handle the load but is the twin & e acceptable?

no, it's not acceptable. needs replacing.

I can only assume that where the T+E is stripped to allow connection into the meter there are RED/BLACK conductors that are now as such non-sheathed cables that are showing and this is against regulation 521.10.1.

So apart from it being dog rough, unless there is a 40amp or smaller protection device, and whether or not the CPC is man enough, it is against the regulations.

oh , i dunno. a 10.5kW shower and a free towel dryer provided by the 6mm T/E tails.

Only if you're happy with cutting meter seals and pulling the cutout fuse. ;0)

You could always report it to the supplier and they should pull the fuse and upgrade the wires.

The supplier won't have anything to do with anything after the meter. You could get them to pull the fuse so you can upgrade the tails.

No seals/seal on the cut out fuse ( 60A ) and like I said 6mm T & E supply from meter to fuseboard. Three 1,5mm/sq radials to lighting on different fuses. Two of them on 5A fuses with 15A fusewire in and the other one is on a 15 fuse. Talking to customer and she been there 5 years and never touched the board. Every day something new.....

Whatever happened to connecting your new tails to the existing and sending the supplier a application for connection form

The last I heard a few years back was that a £16 charge was made,is this facility still available?

I have seen this quite alot, 6mm tails T&E, i have also seen this in a fast food takeaway. There was no sign of burning on any of the connections. I was a bit surprised the first time i seen it. while where on the subject of cables sizes, I had a look at fault with a cooker two weeks ago, the cooker had been installed with 1.5mm flex, which burst into flames, the guy told me it had been installed just over a year. (installed by an electrician apparently who charged him £75)
