Hello ,

I have two pumps , which I want only one to be ON at any given time. The pumps are triggered by several event , i.e. tank empty , irrigation pressure (manual open one of the valves) , irrigation controller.. etc.

I am thinking of using two ON delay timers with say 2 min. on delay on each pump , the timer will connect to the AB of the pump contractors. Now if the input to the timer X is on , the other will be off and vice versa.

So if one of the pumps (well) is already on , and I tried to switch on the other pump (booster) , the well pump will be immediately switched off and the booster pump will be on after 2 min.

Will this work ? Is there a better way to control the pumps ?

Many thanks for such great forum and great people ..

The last thing you'd want to do in Saudi, is to complicate things. This installation is already suffering from other problems, outlined in another thread by the same OP!!

The current installation is perfectly OK , the 30HP submersible pump with its Schneider control panel is working fine. The only thing here is that I have acquired a new land with which I need the addition of the booster pump. As for Saudi Arabia, you may need to read more on the country's development.
Thank you

I assume you have a header tank/reservoir, if this is the case use a run till full float for that and use solenoid operated valves to divert the water to where you it.

I already have a tank with float switch that turns off the well pump with the tank is full and on when it is off. And that is one of the events that can trigger an action that is "not controlled" which I need to take precaution.

thank you

Usually we supply a booster pump via its own safety low-level controller to prevent dry run, we also use this control to activate any alarms required. We fit a separate level controller for the borehole pump that fills the tank. we sometimes also interlock the borehole pump with the low-level safety control unless there's probes down the borehole itself.

A float switch is already planned , which will protect the booster pump from running dry. However it should not be the same valve for well pump , because I need an "extra" water in the tank for disasters like electricity power down. This buffer will be used to irrigate sensitive plants.

Thank you

Think you need to say sorry to Eng54 as he worked in your region of the world for a number of years and was one of the people who helped develop your country before he went to China

I would like to thank you all for your kind participation and ideas ..

Here is the design , correct me if any thing is missing :

Well pump is ON in the events of
1. Float switch is closed (i.e. tank is half empty)
2. Irrigation controller switch it on (we are to schedule the well pump during the day and booster pump during the night to minimize evaporation).
3. The N/C on the "central" contractor is closed (i.e. the booster pump is off), as suggested by rapparee.

Booster pump is ON in the events of
1. Float switch2 is closed (i.e. tank is is not empty)
2. Irrigation controller (or a farmer) open one of the solenoid valves with which the pressure switch connected to the "central" contractor will be triggered (The booster pump to run during the night to minimize evaporation). The N/O on the "central" contractor is closed thank you rapparee :)

Both pumps will have an ON delay timer (2 min.) to be sure we don't have issue with Amps ?

I already thank Eng54 for his participation , as for saying sorry , I don't see a reason to apologize I only recommended him to read more on Saudi Arabia Development. I would like you to also kindly read on the subject , believe me it is not so "Bad" here. We may try to stick to the topic as per the forum rules.
Thank you
