Been to look at a job for a cu change and came across this tns with a cut out i have not seen before. I am trying to get an isolator fitted but having the usual fun and games with the electrical suppliers being very non committal. What i want to know is what is the cut out rating, there is no seal on the fuse but i would rather not pull it to find out. I am a little concerned that this is a bungalow in quite a rural area and the meter has a 40 amp max demand stated on it. I know the customer wants some extra work in the future ie new shower, kitchen extension.

If any one could provide me with their knowledge and expertise i would be greatful. I have attached a picture and i am hoping someone could tell me what type of cutout this is

Many thanks

One of my views on this is the max current the meter can take, It clearly states 40A, it sounds like in the future to will be significantly adding to the loading of the home, A decent shower on 75% power will pull 32Amps in the winter when the ambient temp of the water is colder and you need to heat it more, add a cooker to it and the normal loading and you are overloading the meter.

If the meter is damaged either you or the homeowner are responsible, most probably yourself as you should do your calcs first, First step for me is a new supply/intake area, of course this also depends on the size of the incoming cable also, you could be talking a few quid.

good luck
