Has anyone had any experience with this company?
My friend was contacted by them last week and told that the HSE and her companies insurance had instructed them to carry out PAT Testing at the site she works in!
When she informed the caller that she had already arranged for the testing to be carried out next month by another PAT Testing company, she was told that UKSM would beat any price and asked the price per item quoted, when she told them a family friends company was carrying out the testing at a very competitive price, she was then told that UKSM could simply issue a certificate by email for a small fee without even attending site, and as soon as the certificate was issued the site was covered by UKSM liabilty insurance!
She asked the caller if this was a wind up but was told it was genuine but was only available if she confirmed there and then!
She declined the offer but was even more surprised when the caller then offered a certificate for free if they could book the PAT Testing in for the same date next year!
She has asked my advice on this and obviously I have told her to stay well away but I thought I would ask on here if anyone has heard of UKSM and this emailed certificate business?

Upon checking UKSM website, I notice they are also part of the NICEIC register.
Can they be a part of that when they only offer PAT Testing?

They are only registered for PAT testing by the NICEIC but from experience of talking to them they also offer a free installation check when selling their PAT testing. Given the status of the NIC some customers could be misled as to the ability of the contractor they are employing. As UKSM only show the NIC logo and not their limited registration status this could easily mislead people into believing they are electrical contractors who take on PAT testing as part of their business

If you get beyond their sales desk people they have a few guys who are good at throwing C&G course numbers at you without knowing what they are one guy talked himself into a hole with me when he said their guys were not qualified to remove spur units to test fixed appliances and he previously quoted that they were 2330, 2391, 2392 etc etc qualified when I questioned that they were he passed me on to another guy who back tracked a bit but was still throwing course numbers at me

You have highlighted an interesting point that the NICEIC are out of touch by listing PAT testing as a service when they should be assessing contractors for "In Service Inspection and Testing Electrical Equipment"

I was suspicious after reading the comments left on here, so I done a bit of investigating and found out some of the "tactics" used by this scum!!
The stories you read from employees and customers really is unbelievable!!
They call customers and tell them that they are the company that done the PAT Testing the previous year, when they weren't!
If you tell them they are lying they then say the previous company has gone out of business, lies!!
They will phone a customer before they are due to have PAT done and say one of their engineers is in your area today and could come and complete your testing and they will post date the certificate to the date its supposed to be done, this stops any other company getting the work!!
They will send their engineers to any old job hoping to be let in, most times to a job their not supposed to be at!!
They tell customers if they have had a cheaper price it was from one of their sister companies, come on!!!
If they do manage to get in a customers premises they will not test anything, they simply label everything and log the details in a poxy machine, the engineers will then count any microwaves you have and charge an extra ÂŁ9 per microwave saying a leakage test was carried out, then they will count how many sockets you have and claim to have tested them and charge you ÂŁ50 for the privilage!!
If they cant persuade a customer to let them in they just offer to issue a test certificate free of charge, again so no other company can get the work!!
They really are the scum of the earth and people really need to be challenging them by complaining to watchdog etc!!

Anyone had any dealings with these jokers?

We talk about de-skilling and that our trade is losing respect. Here we have one of the root causes and he's no ashamed at all. He's just chasing the pretty penny with total disregard for ethics or standards. It disgusts me.

Mmmm, interesting reading again and even more evidence of how these con artists operate!
I hope this Mr Lee does come back with some more of his lies, doubt it though!
Anyone else got anything to say about UK Safety Management or Nationwide Electrical Safety or Yorkshire Safety or whatever they are called just now!!
