Ups system for emergency lighting

Has anybody had any dealings with having to install any of these?
I understand that they are used within hospitals and schools...

My question is do they do a system which is small enough to be viable for the common areas within four flats?

It only need to run 500w of lighting...

Yes simple replace existing fitting with bulk or other self contained unit, and switch to non maintained status, gets rid of wiring and ups giving standard 3 hour duration.

Just a thought, but have you considered a 12V leisure battery, trickle charger, invertor and a change-over contactor?

I think the point here is not to rewire the system, however the system is design with ups, the cable will need to be changed.
