How accurate would the reading be? Want to do a quick test before the supply company comes to connect up. Don't have a proper earth rod tester but do have an Eli tester.

Haha, I normally use a 9v battery to do my pre dno connect up ze. After all a 9v battery and the supply are fed from same transformer. So it will give you a reading. Don't use a car battery that would just be silly, we all know they are not fed from same transformer!

Getting back to being serious, ....As this is a TT earthing system, which in all probability will have a high Ra value and that you don't have a dedicated earth tester, leave the testing until the DNO have made their connection. Then use your ELI tester to record the Ra value, ...if over the numbty 200 ohms Ra that BS7671 calls for, you will then have to add another rod onto the (hopefully installed) 5/8'' extendable rod. If you installed a thin 3/8'' non extendable twig, then you'll have to start all over again by installing 2 X 5/8'' coupled rods...
