@nicebutdim do you know what they have changed in the newer models?

Mine is 10 years or so old and has a slightly annoying switch that you have to press at switch on for maximum power. I get why they've done it, but I wish it was the other way round - 99% of the time I want the higher setting!

Lower power consumption than EU regulations require - perhaps they knew about some future change in that regulation. Reviews are still favourable, especially from new owners, but some complain that new models aren't as powerful as their predecessors.

We have one in the house that has the same button as yours, but my old workshop Henry has a rocker switch that can be kept on high power all the time.
 
my Henry is that old, it has it's switch round the back, not on the top. and not a sign of a neon.

and @Buzz, i'd not pay much more than that for a van. most expensive van i ever had is 2004 Hiace. cost £1500 in 2015. still going strong.
