Going to ply line the van floor tonight ready for me to build a bit racking. What's people's thoughts: self-drilling screws to secure; or try and cut it well enough so it doesn't need securing; or some other method of securing?

just lay it. once you've loaded some gear in it won't budge. i.d prefer carpet. your stuff won't slide about then.

I would leave it loose too , you can also use and edge trim screwed down near the doors to finish it of and hold it down there too along with the racking etc should be fine..

I'd had the idea of "probably best not to screw through a brake line", but leaving it loose raises the question "what do I fix my racking to"? If I fix it to the ply floor, it would only be as stable as the loose floor.

I currently don't store anything overnight in the van as it hasn't got a solid bulkhead - all to easy to see through for valuables. I was thinking of making a ply bulkhead too, which would need fixing somewhere. I might be able to fix at the roof and sides - it's not to take any weight other than the ply, and only to act as a partition (if I paint it black it'll probably look like a metal bulkhead from outside which may deter people with an eye for putting windows out)

I used a minimal amount of strategically placed self tappers when I did mine. I think I used 12mm self tappers through countersunk holes in 12mm ply, so the screws only went through the metal by a couple of mm's.

If you get the boards fitting nice n snug, especially at the front end of the van, then could leave it floating, as the main force will be a forward one when braking.

Or silicone it..

but will it get rid of the smell of garlic, onions and frogs legs? or will the van surrender at the first sign of a uniform?

Bound to double or triple the book value too...

Consider it an investment....

Done. 6mm ply with a few self tappers to hold it. Going to start building the racking at weekend. Not sure how to cover bulkhead, probably easiest to try and pick up second hand steel one.

think is. now that you've floored a kangoo, what you going to do with the leftover 28 sq. ft. of the 8 x 4 ply sheet? :35:
