van signwriting - worth it or invite to burglars?

how much business does van signwriting generate? does anyone ever get customers say 'I saw your van and got the number off it' , or is signwriting just an invite to burglars who know we carry expensive power tools/ test kit not to mention cable

IMO in this day and age I think it is a big invite to scum that roam the streets and car parks. Depends exactly where you live I suppose but the same reason as why my van is plain. On the other hand if you have decent locks/security then crack on.

I live in rural wales where crime is supposedly very low, but they are about here too thats for sure, just not as many!

Someone told me that signed vans get an insurance discount - I assume because they are easier to spot but that might be utter tosh.

i guess you have to inform insurance if you get it done, but I would guess they would charge more, my insurance company would anyway! they charged me £25 last month just to change my address after I moved house

I googled it because i always thought the opposite, but it seems most will give a small discount...

Its more professional definatly, i have got quite a bit of work when neighbours etc have just noted my no. Or email Down on the side of the van and called me a few months later

but its more than just that really, is about your company awareness, i personally have branded work wear, signwritten van, website, company email, a logo and plenty of business cards

its all part of your image and really helps with your overall marketing, and makes you look like an actual business rather than just a local 'sparky' in a van, i think people feel more comfortable that way as your more tracable, and i feel i can warrant a better price

its good for your business when your van is always seen driving round your local area, parked out side different houses/businesses, believe it people do notice you!

as for break ins to your van, i think that ANY van left in a vunerable place will get broken into, if the wrong kind of people are about, regardless of the writing on the side, get a van vault and extra locks on the doors

to me an unwritten van would look like someone who does jobs on the side/part time alongside employment and sometimes may put people off, and at the end of the day your just another white van driving about

I find it good for local area as when someone sees a van day in day out they get to know a company name.. When the time comes and they look on Yell it stands out..

As for break ins well of course its going to look more attractive to people if they know what is inside

I think it would be hard to pass up the free advertising. If your'e parked up at a someone's house I think you would be more likely to get work from the neighbours though. On a side note, where I grew up crime is so low last time I went home the plumber had BUNDLES of copper pipe just sitting on top of his van secured with just string :smile5:

in east london tools go back home every night...
no mention sign writing, unless you can park it behind some gates or in a garage.
