Hi

I've got a customer who wants a system put in but his roof requires strengthening and some repairs before it can be fitted. Does anyone know what the VAT status would be if my company did the work as part of the installation as it's doing necessary work as part of the green technology install?

i.e. Would it be 5% or 20%?

Thanks

Hmmm, I would guess it all depends on how you invoice him.

If your invoice said structural work ÂŁ2000, my guess would be 20%,
but if it said 4KWP PV system fully inclusive ÂŁ10000 then I imagine it could be 5%.

It all depends on how you see it.

Hi
If the work you are doing is to enable the PV job to go ahead i.e. you would not need it done other wise then it is considered as ancillary works and is charged at 5% - but I expect like earthstore says there is a point where you will have to make a judgement on how much work is involved.

You can check out how VAT is applied to renewable jobs on HMRC's web site - see VAT Notice 708/6. Sorry I don't know the link but if you google it you will find it. Section 2.3 on the VAT notice covers renewables and other works - you can download it as a PDF. I am new to site too otherwise would have attached the file (useful bed time reading!!).
