Hi everyone,

Please bare with me this is my first thread...hopefully of many!

Ok so I've been thinking about this for a while now, well since I started my training at college.

I currently have these qualifications, C&G 2330 Levels 2 & 3, C&G 2377-2 (PAT Testing) and C&G 2382 17th Edition Wiring Regs and I have about 6 months work experience with a local firm. With these qualifications am I legally allowed to go out and do small domestic jobs. Can I start a company, quote, install, test and fill out test certificates (i.e the NICEIC green ones)?

I want to start doing things for myself, is it worth trying for the NICEIC approved domestic installer...?

Over the next year or so I want to enroll back at college to complete my NVQ Level 3, AM2 and C&G 2391.

I've looked to clues and answers everywhere so any advice would be grateful.

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.

The legal requirement is competence.
If you are competent to do the job then you can.
This is initially down to you assessing your competence but if it came to the crunch someone else may be assessing you to see if your were competent, so be sure.
You would be able to enrol with NICEIC (or any of the others) at the moment, but you should ensure that you continue your NVQ and AM2.
Go onto the websites of the competent person schemes and check out their entry requirements and costs.
2391 is now 2394 and 2395.

Just a couple things to be aware of.

The nvq has been superceeded by c+g 2357

2391 has been superceeded by 2394+2395 (need to do both)

What amuses me a little is that you can register with NICEIC DI or NAPIT with simply a 2382 qual. Also the person wont have to worry about if he is competent because NICEIC / NAPIT will have assessed him and deemed him competent. So if anything went wrong, the guy could say "I was assessed as competent".
