I'm of the opposite opinion on this closed top for me!
I hate having a bag full of dust and other rubbish, whenever I had open top bags I used to just chuck bits of wire, connectors, screws etc in also stops others dipping in for tools thst are then misused!
also if its wet out , rust is less of a problem

Also got to confess I use the XL as my only toolholder (items not being used are in a box in the van) had it for nearly 5 years cost me ÂŁ140.00 and as I bought 5 different bags/boxes for around ÂŁ250 total over the previous 5 years which all fell to pieces, I have definitely saved myself a few quid already,
I was apprehensive at first re the cost but I'm glad I did buy it , it still is in excellent condition and people often say things like "that's a good bag is it new" the only thing which is starting to wear is the shoulder carry strap otherwise no issues at all.

I have a closed top toolbag, it gets left open 90% of the time. It only gets closed when I have a train journey or a walking around open schools etc doing callouts etc.

I know what your saying Dave and in most cases people will do the same, I just got myself into the habit of closing it when I'm away from it and tbh it works for me

I was just trying to point out to those who think open top is better that a closed one can be left open, but an open one cannot be closed if the need arises.

I can imagine the trouble trying to take an open top one on the underground and still have all your tools at the other end of the journey!
