Liken the voltage to a guy carrying a sack of spuds over a distance

There is a particular effort all the way along,so he is losing energy right the way through.its a resistance ( resistivity of the conductor)

Every time he climbs an hill ( a load ) he loses energy because of the extra effort

The amount he loses depends how steep is the hill,or( how high rating the load)
If there are a few hills along the way.they are loads in series and energy is lost through each one

By the end of the journey as long as we know the start energy the energy needed to get through the loads and the all along the way effort, we can measure or calculate whats left at the circuit end

Voltage drop in a different light ( get the pun ):)

voltage drop 3% for lights so 6.9volts max 5% everything else so 11.5volts max. Off the top of my head

Volt Drop = mva/m x Design Current x Cable Lenght divided by 1000

Hope that helps

Why doesn't he seal the sack then?
Then he won't drop any spuds.
