Hi all just a quick question im new to electrics and i have just passed my 17th ed. but i just have a quick question for you all. I have just rewired a downstairs lighting circuit as the regs say its really neat and correctly wired to a rcd split board cu, the question is at the pendants i have a small voltage of about 16volts between the switch wire and earth, how is this. Everthing works fine so not sure why this is. Please help. Thank you.

The voltage reading I assume,is when the light is in the off position
Iin that case the switch wire is just a floating cable and induction off the adjascent live may be responsible
or the neutral - earth potential difference is being monitored with a lamp in circuit
Measure that potential difference with the lamp removed to see which is the more likely

I am assuing that all tests, insulation R1+R2 etc have been carried out and are satisfactory,in that case you are identifying which of the above possibles you are measuring, neither will be anything worth worrying about
