It's quite simple to find out whether the Contractor has paid/declared the Tax deducted.
Simply phone up the CIS help line with the name of the Company and the dates worked.
I have in the past got them to list all deductions and verify amounts for a complete Tax year.
In the past, I worked direct for a company from Febuary through to November when the company went bust.
As far as I'm aware, the company which employed around about 30 workers, did not pay the tax deducted for anyone.
I just declared my earnings, worked out what the tax would have been and put that information on my Self Assessment form.
Never heard anything about it.
