Hi, I have a single ceiling rose with a single bulb in a domestic living room, needs replacing with 8 bulbs. We have a custom ceiling rose with 8 holes in, but what's the best way to add 7 new pendants to the circuit? Just put junction boxes in the ceiling cavity connected in series? Seems like a lot.

Cheers.

can't see from your post what exactly you are trying to achieve, but from what i can see, it's time to employ a qualified sparks.

Hi Kris welcome to the forum

Can we assume these 8 new lamps are down lighters? The custom "8" holes or terminations in that rose would be 3 permanent or loop LIVES, 3 NEUTRALS and 2 SWITCH/LIVES. So you really could not fit 8 cables into it ?

I would normally replace the rose with a suitable junction box and then as you say bring a SWICH/LIVE & NEUTRAL from the JB to your first fitting and then PARALLEL loop, not series so on.

Yes I would have a Junction or connection box at each light for easy connection especially if these are downlighters.

Now this is where it gets interesting, depending on how you install these, those junction boxes should either be accessible of testing, or the newer "maintenance free" type that are in line with the current regulations.

Now I know that mostly non electricians would say this and that, and just but it into a connector block and shove it back up .................well you have asked your question on an electricians forum, and so you will get advised as to good practices and the regulations.

So it's up to you, the proper way as I have said or not

Apologies, I think I'm too new to post photos, or can't do it on my phone.

Those buckets look about right, bloody awful is the direction we're going in. It will be 8 pendants with normal 40w bulbs, not recessed lights. The downstairs lighting circuit will take the new bulbs without exceeding the limit, even if I put 60w bulbs in.

The new ceiling rose has 8 holes in and clamping screws for each flex and will be sufficiently supported, so weight isn't an issue.

The circuit can be accessed from the room above if necessary. I need to change 1 pendant into 8 without adding new roses.

Thanks.

Right I've got an idea how it's going to look. There'll be a plate that all the pendants hang from, the cables should already be terminated into that so all that's needed is for your electrician to come along and connect the fixed wiring to that and fix it to the ceiling.

The circuit can be accessed from the room above if necessary. I need to change 1 pendant into 8 without adding new roses.

If access is easy from above, I think I'd put a load of lever Wagos in an adaptable box; 2x5way for each of L,N and E if required. It won't be very pretty but, short of a row of terminals on a DIN rail, what will?
