Just got one today on the advice of "our" lass....!

local force(s) held a joint op to stop and search ALL Vans on public roads including vehicles inside scrap dealers!!

Sweet...!! dont fancy a fine...!!

only ÂŁ153 for a 3 year one!! :(

easy pickings!!! lol..... they are clamping down on Metal theft but to do that you need a big net to throw and unfortunately it lands on people going about there day to day jobs (i was told that normal business were issued with a 10 day notice to obtain license rather than a fine) however the scum were arrested and had vehicles siezed!

My mate - a builder/roofer bloke - got stopped by plod t'other day.

Plod told him he was looking for a cowboy who had charged an old lady ÂŁ60 for replacing a tile on her roof.

My mate asked plod how much HE would charge someone to drive to the premises, take ladders from van, climb onto roof, fit new tile, climb back down, put ladders back on van & drive home again & that's not counting the purchase of the new tile & having to go get it, nor the cost of running the van & insurances etc. !!

Plod couldn't answer.

Not 60 Quid!!!

Not being funny mate I know your missus is a rozzer but why do the police wonder why people give them a hard time? They are there to uphold the law. Taking waste from your job to a recycling plant is not against the law, or certainly shouldn't be. When I had all my gear pinched I had to wait 12 hours for someone to turn up, have a bit of a nose and tell me not to keep tools in my locked garage. All I needed to do if I needed attention from a copper was pop down my local scrapyard with something to recycle, or try selling newspapers in the street whilst some peaceful protest is going on.

Maybe I'll just fly-tip it all in the future, as responsible recycling at local amenities is obviously a no-no.

its crazy i know mate!!

i have to apply to local council to get permits to use the tip in my van...!! mind you they are free and i get 10 at a time but i hand them to the chap at the hut and he bins them...!! FFS!!!

i now play hide and seek with my trade waste with domestic!! :)

Theres always one that has to split hairs !!

As usuall E54 misses the point, maybe it is only a ÂŁ30-40 job but does charging ÂŁ60 really warrant officers stopping all roofers and acusing them of being the ÂŁ60 cowboy

That really is nowt better to do!

I didn't miss the point at all, i simply answered the question posed to the policeman...

''As Usual''??, i rarely miss the point to any post on here, whether it's right or wrong!!!

I also don't suppose it ever occurred to you, that the policeman was only using the little old lady story as an excuse to have a look into the back of what might of been a suspicious looking van ...Who knows!!!
