The likes of "Matt Alwright BBC Rogue Traders" and Dominic Littlewood are some of the biggest reasons I have no interest in doing domestic work - I would imagine you have to fight for the work by forking out for marketing, go around pricing (for free), argue with customers about what they need when they just want something 'patched up for cheap', move all the furniture and try to do the job without making any mess, clean the room you've been working in, put all the furniture back, explain exactly what you've done and why, then try to get money out of some chancer who seems to think they don't have to pay because they want their own 'rogue traders' story like the ones off of the telly.

Householders moan that "you can't get a decent electrician around here for love nor money" when many of them are offering neither.
I'd rather just turn up somewhere and do a day of electrical work thanks - domestic installers can do the domestic work.

You`re a disgrace , you think it was ok to charge an old lady ÂŁ1700 for a ÂŁ50 job . Comments
and so called trademen like that in the programme make me sick and give my trade a bad name .
oh that's alright Mrs miggins, no charge; just a cup of tea and I'll be on my way , you make me sick

:mad:Really You think!!? No of course it's not alright to overcharge I never have and never will, and if you read between the lines you will realise that I do not in any way condone the actions of the outfit on the programme, especially the father, what I am saying is that Albright & co know these guys do not have any moral fibre and entrap them for sensationalist purposes. What it does is make the general public assume that all electricians are going to rip them off and carry on with employing mr fixit who does a bit of everything but without any regard for regulations or directives (which is why I questioned whether Part P was mentioned.

Where's the balanced reporting? When are we going to see a programme that shows guys coming in, finding the fault after a few minutes and charging a nominal fee? I'll tell you ~ never because the programme will be dull.

Next time you jump down someones throat and get personal, stop and think for a moment, you might just realise that what you read may not be in the context that you first thought.:mad:

I thought we could keep this civilised,I was originally stunned by the fact that these two were still trading. And the fact they were caught out again.I do not really agree with the programme makers tactics but these people need to be exposed. If they were to show good honest tradesmen like we are, there would be no program.
There was a certain amount of entrapment but, with good reason IMHO.

The BBC are picking on a small firm... what about the big companies (eg. energy companies) That do a visual and do the same thing. advise non compliance when safe and charge massive prices and still don't get is right.

I know a lady that was charged ÂŁ4500 for a basic rewire surface mounted by one of the big six and the installation was not compliant when they were done. Yet thats how they got the work by saying it was not compliant and unsafe. It wiring a cooker switch directly above a cooker safe? and loose connections in lights?

obviously those guys watchdog picked on do work for a variety of aged people but the program chose an elderly lady to make it look a whole lot worse.

Sales are sales and elderly are more likely to agree to safety issues thats why you've got companies charging massive monthly fees for insurance for SAFETY reasons. But for some reason society accepts the big companies doing that?

BBC power mad Deceiving freaks!

Not that I'm sticking up for the British electric guys or agree with what they done. Smaller companies are usually trying to uphold a rep or build upon it and therefore endeavour and take more care with workmanship and treat the customer right providing fair pricing. whereas the big companies are highly target motivated and take work for granted. So, the program does have a valuable point but the smaller companies , i think, have been hurt thereof and the customer would be more sceptical after seeing that program.

Please note I am bitter with the BBC as they ENFORCE license and are.

1. ripping us all off.
2. use deception to get that money from us.

TV license Enforcement is deception as it is not necessary, its an illusion.

How many people have been taken to court and how many people are afraid to go to court about license and then be forced to pay when they don't legally need a license.

BBC is currently under investigation by Scotland yard for such.

i wonder if thay are members of the cool forum ??? .. removing the lables was a big no-no .. and why did thay not test each circuit ??? that would of shown the fault or just goto socket ??? the way thay works give us electricains/techi people a bad name :-(

Oh yea I forgot about that bit, where he pulled off the 'next inspection due' sticker to reveal the previous one and then said to the old dear 'your 3 years out of date and that's illegal'. BRAZEN, he deserved a slap for that one.

yeah, enforcing sales by deception and misleading an old lady or anyone is a big no no especially when they are supposed to trust you with there safety.
