Just a little confirmation please stupid question I know.

Bs3036 board, customer wants a low voltage water feature installed in garden with outside light.

I was thinking use a RCD F/C/U between a new socket. I know if all insulated class 2 no rcd is required but the light or sockets use could change in future as the water feature would not be fixed equipment.

How would you do it?

Cheers guys.

low voltage is between 50-1000v ac

depending upon the power required a rcd fcu would suffice and is the cheaper option, i prefer to run a seperate circuit from c/u when adding power externally preferably from a seperate c/u in garage etc, but often you can only do what you can to comply.

do you mean low voltage as in 50 to 600 V ac or extra-low voltage as in not exceeding 50 V ac?

edit: beat me to it Ezzze

Yes sorry guys as I was driving down the road then I thought the same it should have read extra low voltage not exceeding 50v a.c. or 120v d.c. ripple free.

I agree I would prefer to put external power on a dedicated cct too.

Just seen customer and the feature is going to be near the house to keep cost down so will be converting a inside socket to a RCD one and spur off to S/F/C/U for outside light in same location.

simple little job.

How will you be running the feed from the RCD socket to the SFCU? Will it need RCD protection (buried <50mm etc)?

yes good spotting, bK to original to supply both socket and light from a RCD FCU? as 2.5 can carry 27A clipped direct or 20A with method A. The light would be fused at 3A via a SFCU.

How that sound. What was I thinking?

Hi Marty If the property has a 3036 board then i would also be suspicious of the adequacy of the Earthing conductor and Main Protective bonding conductors.----Alterations & additions !

That seems a little extreme as the client wants a cheap as possible job and to be honest a Die Whyer could do it as its not notifiable work.

Then again its unlikely that a DIYer would have the equipment needed or skills and knowledge to test it for safety after installing so as Part P states they should the get a qualified spark to check it.
