Hi all, apprentice and gathering tools together. Just spent a whack on a clatter of things.

I ordered 2 pairs of waterpump pliers by accident, but was wondering is it worth actually having two pairs, for SWA glands etc? If not, ill chuck them back into the post ;-)

I have about 5 of varying sizes , and my other director ( He does like his toys though ! ) has over 10 pair of different sizes and states of wear .

Really should use the correct size spanner so don't mark the gland but that is my opinion I've seen loads of people use water pump pliers for glanding off but it can look a little rough if they slip off

Is there a certain size spanner or an electricians spanner which will deal with most glands remember using one in college sure one end was 19mm an other end 22mm

The best waterpump pliers are Rothenberger, they have a button that you push to adjust the size,it stops them slipping on a nut and biting you on the palm of your hand, anyone who's done this knows how much it hurts.

Aaaahhhhh done some swearing due to that and thrown the pliers to release my anger at them after doing it about 5 times in a row......when it was cold!!...LOL

Binned them and got some with the button on as you say, much better...

They seem a good job, ill go for those when i get these used up. They make decent blowtorches too (rothenberger).
