Newbie non electrician. Please go easy. We are doing a wetroom. Brought through lighting circuit from new lichen ring main a while back and hope to use this in utility wet room. Am I right in thinking I have to use 12 v lights in wet area. Ip65 rated? They will be going in ceiling either side of the shower head. Ceiling height is 2.1 m. Need to fit extractor also. Isolater swith I assume will have to go outside wetroom area. Do I have to have a pull cord though!! Anybother advice would be great. Leccy is away for a week but I need to start prep for his return. Ta

Be very careful, Part P of the building regulations clearly state that the installation in a bathroom or a room containing a shower must be installed, tested and inspected by a person registered under Part P of the regs or must have already contacted their local building control dept in order they can assess the work to be done in order to sign it off at the end

Not neccassary to install low voltage light fittings as long as any light fittings install be they mains voltage or low voltage are compliant for bathroom use , I personally have found that mains voltage showerlights and installing LED lamps can give a great effect without the down side of excessive heat from the lamps and LED runs cold, with regard the extractor I would recommend you go for a low voltage type as zoning in a wet room is open to some movement. You've stated that you have brought in a feed into the wet room lighting from the kitchen ring circuit, you will obviously have to step down the power via a fused spur and must make sure that the circuit you are extending is protected by a 30mA RCD

I'd just fit 12v spot's. I find that when you fit IP rated lights the bulb sit's more recessed in the lighting enclosure and the spread of light isn't as good, its personal prefrence though.

I'd fit a normal light switch outside the room, put the fan Isolator above the light switch or above the door, i prefer too put it above the door.

And when you say you brought the feed in from the Kitchen ring is it fused down where appropriate?

Great. Thanks for replies. Can't remember now what I did bu got a feeling now I ran a new light cable from board to utilty room when we did the house up before. Sure I did think this fr ahead 2 years on!! There's a lighting rcb on my board that doesn't seem to turn off lights in house so assume it's that so that should be fine. Will check when I untape the new cable. Assume te extractors have sensors I don't really want it to come on with the light only when we have a shower?? Have looked at led but ****** expensive. Can I run led and halogen as ogeher as they'll all run off same circuit. With led will I not need to worry so much about ensurig adequate space and clearing in my roof void? Hope that makes sense. Many thanks
