Hi I was just wondering what grade I actually am now am I still a mate or can I be classed as a electrician now?

I have just finished my C&G 2357 diploma well the technical side of it, I also have my am2 booked in for september and I have nearly finished my nvq 3, I have around 4 years experiance in first/second fix and testing and fault finding, in both domestic and commercial and I am often left alone to design and install the circuits, even sparkys I work with come to me for advice (which is wierd considering they have many more years experiance then me.

Also I have worked for sparkys who onlt have there technical certificate 2360 part 1 and 2 or 2330 level 2 and 3 and they are called sparkys.

So my question is could I now call my self a sparky or do I have to wait till I get my am2 and nvq?

Until you get your AM2 and NVQ3 regardless of experience or age you can only get a trainees card which is a level 2, In my eyes you are a spark fella, but the JIB would see you as semi-skilled only, patience fella, you are very close to gold card status.

Far superior than today's grading system

Yeah I have looked at the jib website to see what they say is a electrician but I am not trying to apply for a electrician card any way (obviously I want the gold card eventually) all I was wondering is if I get asked by people like on site could I say I am a electrician or should I say I am a trainee lol (obviously I could of said i was a electrician 5 years ago if I wanted to but I dont want to say it if it is not true)

yes after 4 years IMO you are yes, you could say your a rookie electrician, but certainely in my eyes you are a qualified competant person.

Thanks thats all I wanted to know really thank you. Just have to look forward to my am2 now end of september haha I should have my nvq finished by then also

Also would they be any point in me doing my 2394/95 as I dont intend to go self employed so shall I still do it
Yes 100% do it, the more qualifications you have the more chance you have of employment later in your working life regarding a decent position and management or at least foreman level, go for it.
