Discuss what actually am I now grade wise in the Electrical Course Trainees Only area at ElectriciansForums.net

Hi I was just wondering what grade I actually am now am I still a mate or can I be classed as a electrician now?

I have just finished my C&G 2357 diploma well the technical side of it, I also have my am2 booked in for september and I have nearly finished my nvq 3, I have around 4 years experiance in first/second fix and testing and fault finding, in both domestic and commercial and I am often left alone to design and install the circuits, even sparkys I work with come to me for advice (which is wierd considering they have many more years experiance then me.

Also I have worked for sparkys who onlt have there technical certificate 2360 part 1 and 2 or 2330 level 2 and 3 and they are called sparkys.

So my question is could I now call my self a sparky or do I have to wait till I get my am2 and nvq?

I get called a spark on site but im not qualified yet.

same as we call all pipe fitters plumber's lol

Can I just ask your opinion please?

Do you recon I could apply for a electrician job with a agency? as where I live in hull there is no electrical mate work at all but there is alot of electrician work through agencys, I have finished my 2357 college work just need am2 and finish my nvq 3, the job states that a electrician is needed for night work to install containment systems (trunking and ladder work) I do have alot of experiance in containment systems so I do feel I am compitent to install them, also the add only states 17th edition electrician wanted and I do also have my 17th edition.

Whats all your opinions should I apply for it or should I just leave it and keep looking for electricians mate work?

Do not be put off by the qualification requirements, just apply, but be clear, but not overwhelming about your training and experience.

If you are the only person that applies or the best person that applies then you are likely to get a hearing.

If you were to put in your covering letter something like:
As an excellent worker with over four years experience in the installation of containment systems, particularly trunking and ladder, and with electrical qualification to C&G 2365 level 3 equivalent and the 17th Edition, I was very interested in the opportunity to be able to put my skills to good use in your advertised vacancy.
I would be readily available for night work and I hope that my attached CV is of interest to you.
I await your response with interest.

You have emphasised your suitability, specified your training level and expressed interest.
Details can be covered on the CV.
I was not sure how to describe the training level as the 2357 effectively does the 2365+NVQ3+AM2 and you have not done the last two which is why I put equivalent.

Just good luck with the agency.

If you do not try, you do not do.
