The Trainee section I mean.
1st off this is a positive thread not a put down, but the section seems to be a bit steady away, there are a great bunch of trainee's and mentors in here so it should be the place to come.
Can we all get our heads together and try to think of a few ideas about topics, threads, competitions maybe some suggestions from the trainees what they would like to get out of the trainee section etc.

It is a good section but could be a great one, so come on Trainees & Mentor,Mods lets try and think of a few ways to improve the place.
I will be off to work shortly but will check back in tonight and see if anyone can offer any suggestions and also I will have a think today.

Ps if everyone is already happy with things and don't want to improve it then just say the word.
 
Have offered my help, and still here.....getting alot of pm`s instead of posts, from trainees and full members being frightened asking questions on open forum, just seems a shame that the usual questions, are not posted for everyone to understand.
 
I hear you mate, That is a shame we need to get the trainees to opening up, this is a great place for the lads to get answers and guidance they need.
The forum should be a real blessing for new guys to be able to help them on their journey to becoming qualified electricians.
 
I am very happy with the help I have received in this section.....its definitely the place to ask questions as a trainee, not as much traffic but no chance of getting shot down lol......

I wonder if the forum sponsors could be encouraged to put a couple of small monthly prizes up for grabs for our trainees. After all, it'll be getting their marketing message across and could turn a shiny new apprentice into a customer for life.

Agreed Trev, I think we need to get a bit more activity in here, no disrespect meant for the effort people already put in, I just think we could have more going off, speaking of prizes etc, I have donated a couple already and have got a couple more which I will be posting up later. And without being funny If I and other mentors can afford a couple of prizes I am sure as you say the sponsors could do the same/
I have bought a prize for the trainees today which I'm giddy about and would be more than happy if someone did the same for me.

Tazz you are the source of knowledge and someone I really respect, not only as a Mod but as an Electrician and a man. People in the T/S need to ask their questions in here. We have got a great team of Mentors and Trainees, I must repeat our first rule for the T/S:-

THIS IS NOT THE OPEN FORUM WHERE YOU MAY BE ATTACKED FOR YOUR POSTS.

Not a single post has been reported in this section!!! No one has been rude, offensive, belittling or condescending. This is the Trainees special little club, get involved. :smile:

I have just re-read that part of my post and also after talking to Paul today about typing text can come across different to how you mean it, the above sounds wrong. I didn't mean I wanted someone to buy me a prize, I meant if someone offered me the chance to win a prize then I would enter it to have a chance to win it.
Right I am starting to confuse myself now!!
 
This section is very helpful already i find. All the questions i have asked on here i have been given helpful answers by the various mentors or other trainees. I told my college class about EF and think a couple of them joined. It helped me a lot over the course and i will certainly be inputting more in here and posting up pics of my jobs when i start work again and crack on with my NVQ. (hopefully soon) :smile:
 
What about something like a 'Tip of the Week'? One of the mentors/admins posting a handy hint, maybe even collate them in a thread. No need for deep philosophy, just a lesson from your experience that might not necessarily come up in the training courses, or something that just makes life easier on the job.

PS: For example, one of my TAFE teachers gave us the hint to leave about a foot of tail behind any new outlets. That way, when the owner inevitably decides they want it eight inches to the right, you're bang onto the job. You look like a genius, HO is happy cause he got what he wanted and you've just made an easy 30 quid.
