Believe it or not I just had a customer call today and say "i have just bought a house I don't like rewireable fuse boards can you upgrade it to one of those new ones" oh and I need it relocating as its in the kitchen cupboard - UNDER THE SINK - yes UNDER THE SINK

I will personally guarantee that is an ex council house. I always see that in council houses, it's bizarre!
 
They do sometimes, not that often. Sometimes it comes from customer wanting work done elsewhere which will require RCD protection. Other times you are doing something poncey like a new light pendant and they have an old 3036 board, so you explain the benefits of RCD protection, 17th boards etc etc. Don't be pushy about it, if they don't want it they don't want it, but I always mention it when I think it would benefit them. Most of the time it goes in one ear and out the other, but sometimes they think it's a good idea, so they get a much safer installation and a full electrical test, and you get a days work. Everybody's happy.

See this is what I don't quite get.
If you've persuaded them that RCDs are a good idea for safety, wouldn't it be better to persuade thaem to have a PIR for safety?
Then after conducting the PIR, you would be able to present them with a whole host of things that should be changed or upgraded.

I ain't touched domestic since July 2009, but prior to that I done approximately 7 years on decent homes projects. For eights years up to mid December 2010 I was a QS for a NICEIC Approved Full Scope company, but took my name off.

Anyway got a phone call today from my mate who's company it is, he said he got a letter off the NIC saying he had 120 to find a new QS, after some chat I said yer, ill go back on it for you, that way I can do domestics without upsetting the part p people, not that its anyone's business apart from mine.

On the success side of things, I'm not a story teller, just got in the right place at the right time at the top end of the pecking order on price work and by this I mean my mates company was working direct for the council so the prices we got were ok.

Ill never see that money again in my lifetime.

At the end of the day, jobs don't worry me, in relation to if there's a problem you have to get over it.

Yes, you get two, one for safety and one for the building control side of things.
Oh OK, and you get a certificate for a PIR. What's that for?
Safety.
But don't you get a safety one for the board?
Yes, but with the PIR you get a more in depth inspection.
Is that the only difference?
Wellll, the certificate has a few more pages.
What's extra on the certificate?
Well, a list of things that need fixing, and whether you 'pass' or 'fail', basically.
So if you're doing a board change and you see something else that needs doing, will you tell me about it, then I can pay you to fix it?

Don't worry about the PIR, love.
 
test all circuits prior to and after any major work Cu change is, imo, major work its amazing what some tugging and pulling will damage then issue a EIC with any departures, unless youv been given catre blanc to repair and replace your jobs done

Yes it is however the good news is they are also ripping the kitchen out so I get to have all the room around me before kitchen fitter comes in meter is staying where it is but they want the CU in the hallway

Nice easy isolator to be installed and then run tails from isolator to CU

Customer happy and a nice easy job (i say with gritted teeth)

saying that all I/rs have been done as I always do IR when quoting to cover myself
