I have to replace some bathroom downlighters with a single IP44 double insulated light this week (the downlighters were installed by a previous owner as I can see the position of the original central light).
The CU is wylex fuses (ie no RCD protection) and the main bonding is ok.

I am treating this as a like for like replacement and giving the customer a minor works cert (as I do for like for like as well even though not strictly req). Also plan to ensure that the supplementry bonding is up to scratch when I am in the loft.

Just wanting your opinion as it is a special location which seems to have many opinions.

If you think it needs to be a full installation cert then it will need RCD protection as well and the only way I can think of doing this is to install a small (2way) enclosure with a RCBO next to the existign CU and feed the RCBO from the exist light fuse and then feed the bathroom (and upstairs) lights from the RCBO. Your comments/ opinions.

i would try and talk them into a c/u upgraid first but if they dont you could do what you have just explained and supply them with a minor works cert and recommend a board upgraid in your comments but test the circuit first mate for borrowed neutrals as you know this will give you problems with you rcd and dont forget to check the size of your water and gas earthing .

Or you could bring the lighting outside the bathroom and feed it back via a 30ma rcd fused spur, then issue an eic.
This saves all that relying on other factors lark. ;)

yeah its not really 'like for like' as you have to alter the wiring. What i have done in the past on some rental properties to keep cost down and tick all the boxes is to fit a 30mA RCD into the supply tails of the board...yeah not ideal but its quick and easy. agree with fitting a RCD spur also. is it a wooden wylex board?? if so it has to be changed asap
