I have just been offered a job as an Electricians Mate, with the provision i get a cscs card, but what test am i going for i think its the operatives test or am i wrong and the price says ÂŁ17.50 yet people ae saying 30-40 what is right confused.com here.
PLEASE PLEASE HELP MEEEEEE.

CSCS is just that, and I have seen the tests for 17.50, however the short 2 hour ish course and test is around 40 ish, do you think you could pass the test without the 2 hour course? probably to be fair, best of luck Foxy, good luck mate go for it.

Hi mate think your confusion is
the CSCS is for basically site operatives the test is easy takes about 5 mins not sure on cost of test as i did it for free but to get the card you have to fill a form send with photograph and get the employer to sign and send it off
the ECS card is more for people who want to work on site and carry out electrical qualifications think the test is about ÂŁ40 and then another ÂŁ30+ for the card
have a look on the ECS website think its all on there jsut selct what card your after

jsut google cscs or ecs think its basically same as they both seem to have same cards on them

Hi mate I have jsut been on CSCS site and the test i took last year has now changed again bascally to find out what card is best you would be best contacting them direct and they are affiliated with the ECS and JIb so they will point you at the correct card

Well hoping the test is the same, within a bit, to the health and safety exam i passed, no more than 6 months ago, at College.
Still have the books on that test if you or anyone would think it would be a useful revision piece for me to use. Many thanks lads for the quick response

I seem to remember you have to pay to take the test, then once you've passed, pay for your card. Therefore someone can give you the price for the test, the price for the card, or the total cost to get a card (which includes both).

You don't need any kind of 'course' to prepare you - just remember a fire extinguisher is red and if you come across something unsafe, tell an adult.

If your not working see the jobcentre or local skillls shop as i did and they would pay for the test if you spent a morning attending a session were they had all computers set up in local town hall and you basically worked through 3 times and if you got over 36 i think it was 3 times then you could do the test i was done in less than a hour took the test a week later took me less than 5 mins very basic but read the questions properly and then you get a cert printed out there and then if you pass and then get the application form and send off for the card

basically i didnt need this it was the ECS card i was after but they didnt know what that was
just contact them at jobcentre or contact CSCS direct and they will point you in the direction of a provider and relevent card
or ECS for a trainee or labourer card
if they are affiliated one of them will hopefully know
think looking at the webby its not the Health and safety and environemt test since april this year its all on the site

good luck with the card and you new job hopefully

There is no point in taking the cscs test if you are working in the electrical industry, just go for the ecs test(its just the cscs test with some electrical safety questions)the i believe that you can book a test online if you google ecs card go to the eca/jib ecs card, apply its roughly ÂŁ40 for the test and then you need to get passport photos and fill in the form for the ecs card takes a couple of months, you can fast track and do the test and get the card in 1 day at the JIB headquarters based in sidcup kent if you needed it asap but its over ÂŁ200,these people sure like to steal our money!

this made me chuckle some great advice though cheers.

it has the price and booking on the pearson booking website, will be somewhere near to you to do it, its a multi choice common sense touch screen test which won't take long......better to pay the extra ÂŁ30 and get the card with a photo, as the CSCS lot tell you it's valid for 2 years but for 5 years if you pay extra and send them a photo.....2 years runs out fast....I don't understand why it lasts 3 more years if you pay the extra as to me it doesn't make sense to say that you need to refresh it but not if you have paid more.....but there you go, its better to get the plastic photo card at the same time....

take your passport or driving licence or student ID card with you as they will ask for photo ID to let you into the office......

good luck with the sparks mate job, any questions about anything at all just ask.....

The ECS H&S assessment is exactly the same as the CSCS one but with an additional section on electrotechnical as far as I am aware, if you look on the ECS website I think that I am right in saying you can download a copy of the revision book which contains every possible question that you may be asked in the exam.
One word of advice is to book the assessment asap as they don't run that many, it took us 4 months to get on one this summer.
