What Do i need to start up on my own?

Hi there,

Due to there being a shortage of work ive been thinking to start out on my own ive been doing mainy domestic work for the last 2 years and feel confident in what i am able to do. although i know there is lots to learn no matter how confident you are.
What i would like to know is away from experience, what certs do i need and what bodie do i need to be registered with to be allowed legally to carry out work from minor works to a full rewire

I currently have
17th edition
2330 2/3

Any advice help or thoughts greatly appreciated

you need calibration certs
you need Part P scheme membership if going the full HOG (elecsa, Napit, Nic)
you need All certs EIC, MW , PIR, EDN
you need Tools
You need transport
you need advertising to get name out there
you need accounts system in place
you need an accountant
you need ALL the relevant books and stiff BS7671 OSG, Building regs
you need "LIST is Endless"

well durhamsparky im a part time comedian on my day off lol. thanks for your reply.
Do i legally need to be registred with nic napit, elecsa to be allowed to do a full rewire for example if i rewired a house tommorow and signed it off would that be ok if i notified building control of works to be carried out.
I can get PL Insurance, Got test equipment calab certs, im currently doing 2391.
Sorry i know my initial question is what you answerd perfectly its just the legal side im more interested in, unless that is the answer.

thats fine but you must notify BC 48 hours in advance and pay the appropiate fee (depending were you are can be £50 - £300)

that also goes for outside lights however small and any works in ktchens and bathrooms...

scheme membership is about £450 a year so may be worth investing mate if you aim to do it long run, plus you can notify after job complete and you only pay a few quid for admin fee.!

That £450 - do you need to pay it at one go upfront or can you spread it across several months?

depends if you can sweet talk them! norMALLY FIRT YEAR FEE IS UPFRONT THEN NEXT YEAR IS PAID IN INSTALLMENTS

Think you will find that 5k is perhaps quite a conservative estimate, unless your really fortunate to get work straight away.

Not much graft happening at the moment on an employed note so the patience is quite rehearsed lol. I agree a solid plan is a must.
