Hi,

ok so possibly taking this lad on , on a semi permanent see how it goes basis, one day at a time but see how we go and just thinking ahead.

ok so I'll adjust my PL insurance appropriately.

What if he hurts himself what under my supervision? Say he falls of the stepladder and busts his arm for example.

What sort of insurance do I need?

also, technically he's a minor so do I need anything else, like protection of children type stuff?

imbjustvtrykng to cover my back.

also, I presume it's easier that he subs to me and I just pay his invoice?

If he subs to you then you just have to do cis stoppages I think where as if you take him on the cards you will go into making national insurance contributions and tax deductions etc as well as paid holiday. Probably best to speak to your accountant with regards to wage bits.

Not if his invoices states "maintenance work"

i,m not sure if you do need to stop CIS, as his earnings will be below the tax/NI threshold.

Yes it would be well under the threshold so no worries there.

Its just things like, do I need to be a first aider or such like. And as he is a minor, do I need to be covered in any way as I'm being responsible for him? I'm just being concerned I'm missing something and leaving myself open.

Ha ha sounds like your super keen on this lad and are really happy to be doing your bit on the future of the trade however I feel for you cos it's got your head spinning with regards of all the paperwork and getting all things right for you and him both! Good luck fella
