What do you need for a domestic PIR

Hello peeps,

I managed to worm out a PIR for a customer needing some electrics doing in their house.... but I'm not with a body yet. Got my 2391 so is that enough to sign off, do I need to contact local authorities?

periodic inspections are about competence mate so if your competent go for it get yourself if you don`t already have it public indemnity insurance. you don`t have to be in a scheme for them although a lot of agents etc do ask for nic etc scheme

Was not aware that you do not need to be with a scheme to do PIR's, would this mean I could advertise for PIR's with just 2391?

yes, but as some say insurance companies and other ****e want a scheme, you just need to be competant. dont even need 2391

why does the liabilty not cover it, never had insurance before. someone said you need both pl and pi to even pat test.is it same for contractors

You don't need PI to do PIRs. You are producing a report not giving professional advice

You don't need any insurance at all.
However, if you issue a report based on your professional opinion.
What do you do if it turns out your professional opinion was incorrect?

I keep seeeing threads about pir's.well i have 20 odd years experience no 2391 and i feel i am more than competant do do a pir.In fact a couple of days ago I was asked by a local estate agent to look at a pir submitted by a local niceic electrician on an sniceic pir report so assume he had a 2391. It was clear just by looking at the report that he was at the capers.recomending work that was not necessary .wrong codes for quite a few of the things he had picked up.all in all he was charging over 900 quid for a lot of things that quite frankly did not need done and had the girl in the estate agents panicking that the installation was unsafe.so in a nutshell 2391 means nothing if you have no experience.
