alright lads, just after a moment of your time

12 way board rcd as main isolator, commercial building supplying many fluorescent lights, computers etc. oldish board

problem is when they go to switch on a certain bank of lights it trips the rcd. lights are new and havent tested circuit yet.

Im thinking combined earth leakage current is the problem here and needs a split load rcd? what do you think?
should I buy a earth leakage current tester?

OK OK you didn't install them, so allow me to re-phrase.

Any chance it's been wired wrong?

New light fittings are occasionally faulty.

Why are you asking about combleakage when you haven't even tested for the most obvious fault. i.e. an IR fault

?ined earth
Seemed to me you couldn't see the wood for the trees, just trying to help.

And I'm sorry but if these fittings are new I would have thought the client would have called out the person who installed them, that is why I assumed you had installed them. And that's why I assumed you had energised them without testing. I was wrong, I apologise.

I apologize to you rocker and anyone else i have offend. I poorly phrased the initial thread.

I will test that cct. they did have electricians in before hand but havent solved the problem also there telling me its not just those lights in particular others aswell trips the rcd. and yes I will buy a earth leakage current tester.

Dunno who's being nasty, if it's me I'm sorry never intended any of these posts to be nasty.

Dim Bulb (or whoever else may be interested) I am going to be flogging my old clamp meter in a few weeks when I get another one. It's a pretty basic one and only measures in increments of around 10mA so not great for testing exactly on individual appliances, but great for domestic or light commercial work when looking at nuisance tripping etc. Probably will want about £20 for it, if anyones interested PM me.

Rocker my comment was not aimed at you. Ive watched the way that you have tried to help people since I joined this forum. Im pleased that people like you take the time to input.

ive PM'd you.
