Discuss what do you think in the Electricians Chat - Off Topic Chat area at ElectriciansForums.net

All I was asking do you think she is right or wrong she is now saying that the builder should have fitted the rcd cu as it was a requirement when he did his electrical work
The builder is saying I did not quote to change the fuse board so I will not pay for i
He might say that he's not stumping up for it but if he should have provided an rcd or 2 then if nothing else than for goodwill then he has to stump up some sort of contribution. How much are you going to charge for the CU?

I would say the woman of the house is in the right.
if it needed rcd protection he should have allowed for it.
whats a builder doing electrical work for anyway?
even if he subbed out the electrical to an electrician his electrician would have known it needed rcds no?
in my end of the world builders lay bricks n such and electricians do the electrical work
not your problem
let them fight it out

ÂŁ800

Not really just charged on day rate as I am trusted and don't have to give a price but with the 1major clock up and a few small ones it's gonna be ÂŁ1200ish

|ÂŁ800 for a CU change? Crikey!
If pressed I'd tell her to get the builder to pay, off the top of my head, 20-25%. More as a token than anything else.
If she doesn't press then keep quiet.

In the situation I would have suggested that all parties get round the table and discuss the way forward.

As it happens, your customer has asked you to go ahead without consulting the builder, therefore she has taken the responsibility for the costs you charge to herself.
If she wanted the builder to pay then discussion in advance would be required.
If she was unhappy with the builders work then he should have a chance to correct this at his cost; I would certainly not be happy to do an install and then have the customer come back later and say you owe me for some work I have had done that ripped out your work.

I think this is a business problem rather than an electrical problem and so is all going to come down to who's paperwork says what!

If you have quoted direct to the client then they pay you, simples.

If he has quoted to do the electrical work but has not done it or not done it to an acceptable standard then as long as he has been given the opportunity to correct it but has failed to do so then I would expect she is within her rights to withold money.
