I'm working on a bid for the first fit of a three bed (three bath) house. My first estimate for first fit, labour only, is ÂŁ2,000 per house. Does this seem reasonable to you? or have I forgotten somthing vital?

Hold on while I consult the forum crystal ball mate:)
Seriously though, whereabouts is this? what's the spec? etc etc
I'd say your ÂŁ2k labour only for a first fix seems a tad excessive. What are you planning on charging for materials, second fix, inspection testing and certification/notification?
I'm assuming by fit you mean fix but realise that it could be a new build. That would have no bearing on one of the questions though

I'll be honest, initial price does seem excessive especially when there are sparks out there working for as little one'er a day. Not knowing any spec at all makes it impossible to advise though as I would be thinking pendants in rooms whereas this may be a top spec fit with downlighters in every room, fire alarm, security alarm, cctv, electric garage doors, satellite TV in all rooms, telephones in all rooms.... the list could be endless.

OK the outline spec is terrace house thus no garage. 4 double sockets in each of 4 rooms plus landing etc, 9 outlets (d/socket or FCU) and 9 downlights in kitchen, pendants in other rooms, TV, Tel and Network to each room. Extractor fan in each bath/shower (3) and kitchen for which we would be responcible for core drilling. It is a new build arranged on 3 floors.

I had worked on 160 per day, with 30% contingency, but maybe able to employ somebody cheaper. In the end it comes down to how long should I expect it to take. I estimated just over 8 days. I would value your oppinions.

Oh and the area is Surrey.

Geoff

I think I might have to go back and review my time estimates!

Probably about 800 each to include Test and certification.

Roughly as follows:
Ground floor
..Kitchen Ring
..Living room Ring
..Ground floor lights
..Hall/Landing Lights
..Toilet light (over consumer unit)
..Boiler
First floor
..Ring
..Lights
Second Floor
..Radial
..Lights

10 circuits in all

8 days for first fix on a new build? Crikey that's slow mate.
Like I said earlier, what are you charging for materials, second fix, inspection testing and certification/notification?
That seems very very high

Is this all going to be boarded using dot and dab or fixed to timber/metal frame?

Will there be any floor boarding down? I presume tongue and groove chipboard?

Extras are:
Razor points
Under cupboard lights in kitchen
Tails to consumer unit
Outside socket off dining room ring

Are you working alone or have a labourer working with you? ÂŁ160 a day suggests you'll be working alone so you may wish to find a labourer as this will help speed up the cable pulls rather than tie yourself in knots :thumbsup
