Hi Chris

I'm woundering if it was used in perhaps a bathroom eg becomes what they call 'home office shroud', so yuo can change the lamp without touching the metal, but this is only a guess!

Nope got a normal bayonet fixing, max 100W so cant be energy saver, put in bedside light light still works during daylight so dusk to dawn appears to be out.

So far I think SirKitBreaker is the closest:)

well whatever it is it looks like that bit in the middle has some electrickery in it. If puzzle not solved in 24 hours, I am sure a lump hammer would let us take a closer look inside. Incidentally as a clue, I did google the model number you gave, and I got a load of web sites that were very foreign, so could it be a transformer of some description ?

as mentioned before I think it's for a light fitting were you attach the glass shade etc to that lamp holder in the picture and then insert it into the existing batton or pendant so you don't need to disturb the existing wiring DIY made easy. Had the exact same thing on a couple of lights I had to hang a month or two ago, they had a large flying saucer shaped glass shade with a round flu tube running around the perimeter, it had the same attachment just had to plug them in really easy job :)

Why is it you always come up with the best ideas I have instructed solicitors to get some compensation from you this is the second time I have fallen of my chair:)
