As the title suggests, I just wondered what all you lads consider the best part of doing what you do ie Electricians / Engineers.

It can be anything really, from design, installing, testing, dealing with customers, getting to buy loads of gadgets, it could even be based on the places you visit, the list is endless really and is open to self employed or employed I am just curious to see what different guys enjoy the most about what they do day in and day out. And don't rush with your answer have a good think about it before you decide.
PS you can obviously reply has many times as you want if you can't pin it down to one thing.

So over to you Guys, Discuss!!

Getting paid ! :D End of thread ..... lol

No, really I just enjoy all aspects of my job. Been self employed for 4 years now and loving it more now that I'm busier than ever. Making a wage now is an unexpected bonus ... lol.
I absolutely love the flexibility of being self employed. Having to work the odd weekend is nothing compared to those random days off I award myself for lunch out with the missus or the long weekends camping with the kids I can arrange at will.

Job satisfaction on completion has to be a winner for me though. I love it when a job gets to the final touches and it's all to mine and the customer's standards. A certain amount of pride kicks in.
At the end of a job when the customer says "Thanks very much, we are really pleased with the standard of everything you've done and we will certainly use you again and recommend you" that's also a boost.

My guilty pleasure is tool treats. Lots of internet window shopping goes on with the occasional purchase when I can afford it. The old battered stuff I started out with has nearly all fallen by the wayside and I've got the kit I enjoy using every day. Decent tools really do make the difference between struggling through the day and getting annoyed and enjoying the daily grind.

Andy you're banned that is just too many answers lol,
Only kidding Nice to see everything is going well for you fella It's nice when all the hardwork starts to pay off, well done mate.

Suceeding where others have failed to resolve an issue and getting the genuine thanks from a very pleased customer.
Your reply mostly sums it up for me , when I personally do the job / breakdown.

But for general install work , it is going around the finished job and not being able to find any part of it that could have been improved on , if it was to be done again , either by my design or the one's installing it .

Not having to be a Angecy Worker, not knowing from day to day if you have a job just because a Boss/Agency takes a dislike to you.

18yr with the same company on and off due to Agency working. Temp to PERM job, id sooner eat carrots.
Tho setting myself up as Self Employed is very scary, Id sooner be a 100% sure of what i am doing on every thing, but INTO the UNKNOW for every job can lead to problems there to be sorted.

I would say i hope to be able to just do the job, but you will get people wanting you to do it other ways. Dont mind people asking questions if they are intrested, but i've never been a speed demon, just want the job done correct and bit better than they could wish for.

Just want to LIVE with a bit of a CHALLANGE that i can do (if not the spelling)

Learning something almost every day.

Working in HVAC controls with the varied mix of devices, motors, control panels, containment etc that it involves.

Fault finding and rectifying long standing problems that others couldn't solve is always gratifying! :)
