As the title suggests, I just wondered what all you lads consider the best part of doing what you do ie Electricians / Engineers.

It can be anything really, from design, installing, testing, dealing with customers, getting to buy loads of gadgets, it could even be based on the places you visit, the list is endless really and is open to self employed or employed I am just curious to see what different guys enjoy the most about what they do day in and day out. And don't rush with your answer have a good think about it before you decide.
PS you can obviously reply has many times as you want if you can't pin it down to one thing.

So over to you Guys, Discuss!!

Some days everything goes perfectly and you get a great deal done, all very neat and spot on, during the course of the day you get an hourly cuppa from the grateful customer and maybe a little tip at the end.

Teaching the apprentices the hard way about capacitance in MICC .. IR tester gullible lad and a charged MICC cable never gets boring unfortunately a dying skill and opportunity for fun :devilish:

Subbing to companies with gullible apprentices who fall for every trick and scare tactic possible.
The worst has got to be the other week finishing a school fire alarm and having let the apprentice 2nd fix most points of 1 loop. 1hr commissioning turned into 10 hrs fault finding haha

The moment when a system starts to come alive in a performance venue.

There's lots to do, the house crew are looking it over, bars are flying in to get rigged, Where's 48-72, used to be downstage? Ah, here they are, look there's more hard power circuits here now. Why isn't this DMX outlet working? Don't worry we're in the board that feeds that rack, be on in half an hour. 15 minute blackout? Yes well if you must. Right there's your blue workers back on. Steve are you in the dimmer room? Can you set some non-dims? Coffee please one sugar. OK take the truss out we'll work on it up there. Motors what? Ah, no, see this panel here, there's an override...

I'm up in the gods sitting astride a truss fixing a multi that got damaged during rigging by the light of my head torch. The dancing girls are on the stage far below, when the repetiteur strikes up the first chord on the piano. It's no longer just electronic units connected by wires, it's entertainment!

The PERFECT job, would not involve duration, size or wonga...it would start with a desperate plea for assistance, others having either failed or added to the problem...the need for an expensive under used tool to be required...maybe some heath-robinson jury-rigged adaptation to occur, with maybe the customer looking on,muttering "what on earth do you need that bungee and sink plunger for?"...a thorough demo and long winded explanation, after which they try to silence you with immediate payment, and take you for dinner...:conehead:

To be absolutely honest, the most pleasure i get from a satisfactory job,is usually a "love-job",local parlance for "free"...a while ago,i saw this strange little figure, wrestling with a spare wheel, outside my house...i offered assistance, and the fella told me,in fair English,he was a retired Gurkha, and was taking his missus to meet some of his army comrades,at a local shopping mall.

I was not confident my directions were helping him,so i got him to follow me the 5 minutes up the road,so he got there.

On arriving,he thanked me with heels together, and a bow...i shook his hand, and it was that, and his eye-contact,that confirmed what i had suspected...that man,had some stories.

Felt good,and not a penny moved...
