It part of a supply circuit to a 250KW VSD.

Bonus man points for explaining what it does, and why it's installed.

At a complete guess - Capacitors? Diodes?

it's a 3 phase flux capacitor. essential for time travel in all 3 dimensions, whereas in back to the future, the prof. could only travel in time. easy peasy.

I find this side of things very interesting. Sadly most of my experiance lies in domestic.

Can you recommend any decent books on motors/control etc. I would like to get more clued up with this area of things.

There are some brilliant books, there old now. I got one as an apprentice. Was written by brook crompton, I'll see if I can find a link.

I know Tony quite well, albeit never meeting in person we have both worked at the same place.

He he may seem a little grumpy,the phone conversations I've had with him are far from it, I've nearly cried laughing.

The mods not letting him access here is a real shame he knows just as much as me, and has being doing the job far longer.
