Hi im having to replace some old meter cable from the meter to the consumer unit , as it is around 6m in length i am going to fit a switch fuse unit , my question is what type of 25mm cable would you use and will it need a separate cpc other than the main 16mm main earth that is going to be run to the CU,also how would you wire it in , there is a double pole switch there at the moment so isolation shouldnt be a problem. Many thanks

Hey mate.

Is it a straight run to the C.U from the meter i.e up, down, sideways. Does it have to be concealed? can you use surface trunking? Also what size is the cut-out fuse??

If surface then 25mm tails with a 16mm earth in PVC trunking should be fine (depending on cut-out fuse). If you have to conceal then maybe an armoured or a concentric cable??

Spot on with the switchfuse if you can use tails then an MEM KMF would do if not, maybe a metalclad SF.

Cheers.

Hi lenny , the current cable is clipped up and along the cellar ceiling beam then up the side of the cellar steps to the top where the consumer unit is.The old cable is 10mm twin and what looks like 4mm main earth !

Cut out fuse says 100 amp but could be less , dont want to pull it

Hey.

As it's down in the cellar then no need to conceal I'm guessing...
Is there any risk of damage with the route being close to the steps?? If not then I would say that 25mm tails and 16mm earth in a surface trunking - MT4 or 5 would be fine.

Cheers.
