On site today and I had an Ashley backbox that was loose on one side because the plasterer is rubbish (another story). Anyway, I thought I'd do a quick fix by putting some fire foam on the dodgy side to hold it in the cavity wall. The walls are full of the stuff anyway.

I'm there putting a bit in at a time so not to over fill the void. Ok a bit more as nothing is showing. Ok a bit more, still nothing foaming back at me. Ok a lot more until it starts foaming back at me..... That was a bit of a mistake.

One of the building site labourers said "are you sure your not going through the other side?"

Me "No, don't think so mate. Let's just have a look to check." Then I saw this coming out of the other room:-

Paul you rounded door handle. I've only gone and put way too much in and its now running down the wall like a slow moving waterfall! Btw this picture was taken just as the flow began, ten seconds later I was too busy to take a pic but it was worst than that!

Twenty mins spent cleaning the foam from the other backboxs and cables, another 40 mins cleaning the bloody foam from my hands and screwdriver, what a prat :). Oh, that's a ÂŁ40 socket that I've just wrecked, its in the bin, they can clean it if they want because I'm not.

Head spark just laughed at me and then banned me from using the foam gun again unless supervised! Think he was joking but I'll put that to the test tomorrow :):).

Lesson for today Paul, don't be out done by the words of wisdom from a builders labourer again lol.

What silly mistakes have you done in the past? This could be an interesting thread if people own up?

Bloke I worked with once told me about a time they were on a job and the sparks with him drilled through a wall and got his measurements wrong, went through the wall, went through the otherside and had drilled through an oil painting!!! One of the funniest thing's I've ever been told.

we were rewiring some council flats near lymington , they took one bloke about 2 days each to complete
i got freindly with a sparky called john, well-- he got a flat that was occupied by a very attractive single mum, she had 3 kids all by different men, well john took about a week to do the rewire
it was pretty obvious what he was up to! he always had a smile on his face:drool5:

Well i can admit to making numerous mistakes over the years, both in life and professionally. But i can hold hand on heart and honestly say, ...I've never made the same mistake twice!! ..lol!! As the old saying goes , you learn (maybe the hard way) from the mistakes you make in life...

i invited my freind "tim" to help me rewire a flat on the estate in my previous post ,
i told him not to drill a hole next too the stop cock for the bonding cable to come through,as the live side of water supply was buried in the wall
"drill it further away tim"
no, tim chawed straight thro the copper pipe(on the mains side) water ****ing everywhere

years ago my grans flat was being rewired so I went round to keep an eye on things anyway there,s a large gang of sparks wiring different properties,a couple of doors down is a semidetached house andabout midday this angry looking man turns up at grans flat demanding to see the man in charge, anyway after a lot of swearing he takes the boss man by the throat and invites him to his house. As they set off down the road still holding boss man by the throat,I decided to follow we enter the mans house and sticking out from the middle of his artexed lounge wall is a large chisel surrounded by bulging plaster.Quick dash next door and there is an apprentice struggling to extract a kango from a chase he was cutting.

rewiring a 9 story office building in b/mouth, me and "tim" had the job of running a wide tray right through the false ceiling from one end to the other, it was suspended from the concrete using redheads and threaded 6mm rod,
tim couldn,t find a decent fixing as there were hollow voids in his line of fixings, so he decided to put bits of carboard around each redhead to pack them out

well their were 400 computer cables to be pulled through the traywork--
when 300 were layed in, tims fixings came out of the concrete and the tray collapsed all down one side and bent all the existing ceiling grid-- my how we laughed

mate of mine was working in a 4 story building .

After discovering a dead rat under the floor boards ( and not wanting to work around it all day ) . He decides to pick it up real quick ( with gloves) and ---- it rapidly out the window.

Next thing he knows , property owner and customer , walks up stairs and says :
' right then , who just hit me in the back the head with a dead F***ing rat !!!!'
