Hello,
Im just new to this forum, it seems the place to find out the answers to my questions!

Im currently a maintenance electrician on a chemical plant. I have the following qualifications
-NVQ L3
-Btec electrical L3
-HNC electrical engineering.

I want to start doing more jobs out of work in the domestic side legally and legitimate.

I would like to know what qualifications are needed. I am mainly looking at the testing and inspection. Am i right in believing that i have to register with a governing body to be able to issue houses with a completed test and inspection?

What qualifications would i need to under-go this type of work?

Many thanks

Scott

No, you do not need a JIB card. Utter rubbish. The quals you have enable you to work in domestic but you may find that you want to do your 2391 test and inspection but this is not a requirement as you can test and inspect as long as you are 'competent'. As for signing off - either pay the local authority around £140 + per job or join an approved organisation such as Elecsa, Napit, NIC etc.

Id recommend you do the 17th edition course (or exam with prior regs swatting :)) its very easy (and I mean very easy!!!) but will brush you up on latest do's and donts etc also if your testing is a bit rusty (I come from a similar environment to you and mine is lol) 2391 will be very worthwhile (im looking at it too).

Part P self certification will be worthwhile if you do lots of notifiable work as using BC will be exensive as well as being a royal pain in the arse!! and it will be hard work getting small jobs whn you add the extra cash needed for them on top!.
